Assistant Principal

Achievement House Cyber Charter School (grades 7-12), headquartered in Exton, PA is seeking an Assistant Principal.  The Assistant Principal position is a full-time, salaried, twelve-month position.

The primary function of the Assistant Principal position is to use leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to support the Principal to promote the educational development of each student in the school.  A major emphasis of the role will be on testing (MAPs, Keystones, PSSAs), student discipline and attendance.

Under the direction of the Principal, the Assistant Principal responsibilities will include:

• Developing professional staff expertise by defining expectations for staff performance regarding instructional strategies and communication with the cyber community.
• Observing employee performance, records observations and conducting objective evaluation conferences with the staff.
• Assisting in recruiting, screening, hiring, training, and evaluation of the school’s professional and support staff.
• Conferring with staff regarding their professional growth and helps them develop and accomplish organizational and personal goals.
• Working with the Principal and Curriculum Coordinator with curriculum development activities commensurate with school and district goals.
• Identifying curricular and extracurricular needs by analyzing current programs and student achievement.
• Emphasizing student assessment/monitoring and constantly reinforcing student achievement as the primary outcome of schooling.
• Systematically assessing and monitoring student progress using objective and verifiable data.
• Working with staff to systematically identify and respond to at-risk students; makes referrals to appropriate school and community agencies as needed.
• Providing meaningful guidance and information to parents/guardians and others regarding student progress.
• Developing an attendance policy with administration and Student Attendance Coordinator as well as enforcing the attendance policy to hold high standards for students.
• Ensuring that school rules are uniformly observed, and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
• Handling LEA responsibilities for IEP meetings and other needs as assigned.
• Communicating and promoting expectations for high level performance to staff and students.
• Recognizing excellence in student and staff achievement.  Working with faculty and students to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.

The Assistant Principal works together with the Principal to guide the school according to PA Dept. of Education standards and be an effective communicator in articulating the school’s mission to the cyber community.  The Assistant Principal must be able to make decisions in a timely fashion and employ proactive problem-solving skills to avoid crisis situations.

The Assistant Principal will also play a key role in his/her own professional development and that of the teachers and staff.

A minimum of five years combined teaching and administrative experience, including cyber experience is desirable. 

A valid Pennsylvania Secondary Principal certificate is required.  If certificate is not obtained, requirement for obtaining certificate must be easily fulfilled.  PA certification in Special Education is a plus.  A Master’s Degree is preferred. Assistant Teach Position(s)

Achievement House Cyber Charter School in Exton, PA (grades 7 through 12) is looking to interview Assistant Teacher for potential openings this 2020-2021 school year.  These 10-month positions can be either full-time or part-time.

Open positions will be in the core subject areas of English, Math, Science and Social Studies, as well as Special Education.  PA certification is preferred in the respective subject area, but not required.  A background in technology is helpful.  Child abuse and criminal background clearances are required.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, these positions can be handled from home.

Teaching responsibilities will include assisting Teachers with:

• Designing PA standards-aligned lessons and assessments for use in the Cyber environment;
• Teaching recording live lessons using an online classroom;
• Grading lesson submissions according to Achievement House protocol and maintaining records in an online grade book;
• Communicating course expectations, class times, and upcoming events to students and parents using e-mail, instant messaging, and course announcements.
• Contacting students and/or parents of students who are struggling and/or not completing assignments
• Developing and implementing programs of individual and small group help sessions on a regular basis according to student need.

We are looking to hire teachers who can effectively teach and managed their responsibilities in a cyber environment.  Teachers will be trained how to use the online school portal to provide organized lessons, live classes, e-mail communications, course announcements, grading, and be able to locate resource information using search tools.

Developing and delivering cross-curricular activities:

• Create cross-curricular lessons with the school’s Curriculum Coordinator and core content teachers to align with maker-space activities.
• Design and implement school-wide Project-based days four times a year.
• Deliver group professional development sessions as well as working one-on-one with individual teachers to explore innovative ways to integrate technology and CTE PBL-based lessons into core subject areas.

Coordinating Mobile Maker Lab event locations:

• Search for locations accessible to clusters of students. 
• Ensure all locations have safety regulations up-to-date, internet is available, has access to public and personal transportation, sufficient rest rooms are available, and enough space for event activities and presentations. 
• Schedule reservations and sign rental contracts as needed.

Requirements include:

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Information Technology or related area.  Master’s degree preferred.
• PA certification in Business, Computer and Information Technology or Technology Education or willingness to pursue such certification while in the position.
• PA certification in Art or experience teaching Art related subject area useful, but not required.
• Prior experience training instructional staff on an array of instructional and technology-based practices a plus.
• Experience with the development of training materials.
• Knowledge of online pedagogy and facilitation.  Actual prior cyber experience a plus.
• Exceptional communication and teaching skills, an appreciation for teaching and learning and the ability and desire to keep up with the current technologies.   
• Strong interpersonal, problem solving, and organizational skills required to effectively facilitate staff coaching and development.
• Demonstrated success integrating various technologies into classroom instruction.
• Well versed with emerging technologies.
• Proven experience promoting student engagement.

School Psychologist

Achievement House Cyber Charter School (grades 7-12), headquartered in Exton, PA is seeking a School Psychologist for the 2020/2021 school year and beyond.

The position is classified as an Independent Contractor.

This position will work remotely.

This is a new position created to support the school’s growth. 

Primary responsibility includes:

• Responsible for the psychological assessment of academic, social, emotional, and behavioral domains utilizing problem-solving and standardized evaluations.
• Monitors the completion of case study evaluations and participates in Individual Education Plan (IEP) conferences and problem-solving meetings designing systems, programs and services that maximize students’ social, emotional, and educational success.
• In collaboration with staff, families, students, and communities the school psychologist promotes effective educational environments.

Areas of responsibility will include:

• Conduct psychological assessments and interpret results using web-based administration of virtual evaluations using the Q-global platform through Pearson Assessments.
• Share assessments results with students, parents and staff.
• Participate in IEP conferences, team meetings, and problem-solving meetings as needed.
• Monitor completion of tiered interventions and problem-solving meetings.
• Lead crisis intervention efforts and provide insight into the development of functional assessments and behavior intervention plans.
• Integrate psychological services into the classroom environment as appropriate.
• Help staff in the design and implementation of appropriate interventions and accommodations for students.
• Evaluate and/or translate research into practice and understand research design and statistics in enough depth to plan and conduct investigations and program evaluations for improvement of services.
• Contribute to program development that furthers the integration of social, coping, and problem solving in the classroom.
• Provide support services to parents/guardians as needed.
• Coordinate and/or collaborate with a range of individuals/agencies to promote and provide comprehensive services to students and families.
• Provide and/or assist in professional development for staff, parents, and/or community.
• Participate in professional growth activities on a yearly basis including recertification for CPI, workshops, in-services, professional reading materials, and/or other available offerings.
• Proficiently use technology to communicate, compile reports, and collect data.
• Participate in building or program activities and meetings as appropriate.

Requirements include:

• Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work or related field.
• PA School Psychology certification.
• 3 or more years of experience working in school setting preferred.
• Child Abuse and Criminal Background Clearances.
• Act 126 Mandated Reporting Training.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to work effectively with professionals from a wide range of organizations and disciplines and to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationship with all members of the student’s team.
• Communicates clearly, concisely and effectively, both orally and in writing, with all staff students, parents/guardians, and community.
• Ability to multitask under extreme pressure while working with difficult situations and personalities.

School Social Worker

Achievement House Cyber Charter School (grades 7-12), headquartered in Exton, PA is seeking a School Social Worker for the 2020-2021 school year and beyond. The position is a full-time, salaried, 10-month position, plus some days over the summer as needed, and paid over 12 months.

The candidate for this position will work onsite in our Exton (Chester County) location.  NOTE: during the COVID-19 pandemic, employees are given the option to work from home.

This is a new position created to support the school’s growth and expanded services to students and families.  Primary responsibility includes:

• To coordinate and collaborate with students/families, school staff and community agencies to enhance students’ learning and fostering positive partnerships by providing a full range of support services.
• To identify supports to students/families and initiate referrals to community resources and social service programs to help promote school success.
• To work synergistically with all staff and in particular Guidance, Mentors, Special Ed Department, and the SAP Team.

Areas of responsibility will include:

• Conduct formal and informal assessments of a student’s background including developmental history, family and community structure, interpersonal relationships, adaptive behavior and cultural factors that may influence learning.
• Use student family, school and community assessment to develop appropriate interventions to improve student learning and work to eliminate barriers that interfere with a student’s education.
• Talks with the student to help him/her to identify and understand the present difficulty or problem and works with the student to assume responsibility and explore ways to improve it. 
• Contact parents as needed to alert and/or explain their student’s problem with school performance or attendance and work together with parents to find solutions to improve their student’s performance.
• Hold meetings with parents to provide resources and opportunities to be involved in the school. Assist families in obtaining community-based resources related to family needs such as food, clothing, shelter, mental health services and funding sources.
• Conduct home visits to strengthen the relationship between the student, parents/guardians and the school. Help students and their families work toward solutions for problems affecting child’s readiness to learn.  (Home visits would start-up once the COVID-19 pandemic is passed and home visits are mutually agreed to between the student’s family and the school).
• Maintains cooperative and collaborative partnerships with families.
• Consult and collaborate with parents/guardians, school staff and community resources in areas that impact student learning (e.g. mental, health, teen pregnancy, behavioral management, crisis management, child abuse and neglect).
• Will be the school’s liaison for students experiencing homelessness especially as it pertains to finding related services for them.
• Maintains a list of community-based organizations that provide supplemental resources for student and family support.
• Maintain confidential records on all referred students and student/family contacts in accordance with federal and state law.
• When advisable, participate in a student’s orientation to help facilitate a student’s adjustment into cyber school.
• Participate in PBIS initiatives, Career Readiness programs and other school programs that enhance the students educational experience.
• Continuously educate staff and parents/guardians with respect to behavioral concerns and academic success.  Develop and facilitate workshops that address new challenges students may be facing and coping with trauma.
